Our friend Dave lost his Dad over the weekend. Regular readers will remember Dave from our excellent golf adventure. The trip of a lifetime that we're determined to relive again. Dave's Dad, Ray, lived 92 years and we drove to West Springfield to pay our respects today. Dave's Dad was married to his Mom for 66 years. They had nine kids. Dave was the youngest. Dave's Dad was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the "Deadline Gang". The “Deadline Gang,” a closely knit group of mostly Italian-American immigrants who grew up in West Springfield’s Memorial Avenue neighborhood during the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. The name ‘deadline’ is taken from railroad tracks that bordered the community, said Nancy Piccin, one of the reunion organizers whose father was a ‘deadliner’.
The calling hours were in a beautiful building. Jen and Didi posed accordingly. Ray would have approved.
