Big Win

Bill and I should really just pack our bags and go home now while we are ahead.  We had a big win at the Vic last night.  Here is how it unfolded.

First I need to make it clear that our win had nothing to do with the Gnome.
Bill brought our Gnome to the pub.  I don't like the Gnome.  He's too smug for my taste.

Anyway, I also need to make it clear that we had a big team.  Probably bigger than any other team in numbers.  But then again Bill and I are not really a value-add.
So we had John and Jason (our old Jedi Knights pals) and Jerry and Jules (Orchestra) and their Air B and B guest Caroline from the Philippines.
And since we had a big team we needed a big team name.
Jason called us Stop The Bus and Let My Brother Jack Off.

So while the others were actually answering questions, I just posed as if I was answering questions.  And Bill and Jason went out for a couple of smokes…so really, our team looked a lot bigger than our net total brain power.

Let's take a little break from our story to look at the cute dogs at the table next to us.
OK, we're back to the quiz.
We even had a wee bit of controversy around the link between one of the top 5's…
Unfortunately I only have notes for 3 of the 4 we need to link but you will get the gist.
So who was born Carlos Irwin Estevez?
Who was Catherine Zeta Jones' husband?
Who was president of the US during the 2001 attack on the twin towers?

The answers are Charlie Sheen, Michael Douglas and George W Bush.  What links them?
We had that they were all sons of famous fathers but the answer was that they all did the same job as their fathers.  Should we still have gotten the point for the link?  Jerry thinks so.  I think it was fair that we didn't get the point.
Quiz Questions:
What was the first UK airport to screen for ebola?
What is the first event in a decathlon?
Who is the author of the Tracy Beaker series?
What country lies between Algeria and Libya?
Who sand the duet "Islands in the Stream" with Dolly Parton?
What is the chemical element named after the most populated US state?
The band They Might Be Giants got their name from what novel by Cervantes?
The classification of what food product prompted a legal case in 1991?
In the 1840 book by James Fenimore Cooper, the character Uncas was known as this.
I seriously wish that Gnome would go home!
Everyone likes to try on Bill's hat.

(I just want to call out that this was my one shining moment of knowing something that no one else on the team knew.  I need to take my tiny bits of glory where I can get them.)
The dog next door was seriously cute.
Before they tallied up the team scores they called a random person out for the jackpot question.
They called Bill. Again. This was his third time out this year….the question was:
How many airlines fly the Airbus A380?
Do you know?
Bill did!  Or at least he knows how to guess because the answer is 12.
Bill is our jackpot winner of the night!!!

Everyone loves a winner.  Especially John.

Ellen delivered the winnings to Bill.  130 GBPs!
Our quiz master tonight, Hugh, gets back to the team scores.
And the winners are…..Stop The Bus and Let My Brother Jack Off!!!
Ellen comes back to record our win in the Quiz Bible.
Bill is such a cute winner!!

So we played with all our pals, we won the quiz, and Bill won the jackpot.  Our work here is done. (Just kidding - we never want to leave!!!!!  Can't wait to do it all over again next week.)
