Sunday Regroup

On Sunday we said goodbye to Kats and realized we had the day to ourselves.  It was a bit cold and rainy but we spent the day just wandering around London taking in the sights.  The Christmas decorations are up on Oxford, Regent, and Bond Streets...

Louis V is colorful but doesn't look very Christmassy to me.

Kats was kind enough to leave us tickets to the Anselm Kiefer exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts so we decided to check it out.

Mr. Dibley wasn't sure what to make of it.  The art was very large and very dark.
But he liked posing for the stealth photos because, as usual, no photography was allowed.

We watched the clock on Fortnum and Mason do it's thing - the men come out and move a bit while the clock chimes.  That's the kind of day that it was - a day to just stand in the street and watch a clock.

Oxford Street.  Last year the decorations were promoting the Bullwinkle movie.  This year it's Night at the Museum.  I wish the holidays didn't require sponsorship.
The street was closed off and some sort of boy band was going to play here - in 2 hours. People (mostly tween girls) were already jockeying for a space with a view.  They also had people posing as characters  standing in the street for hours.

Advertisements everywhere.
So we ducked into an upscale men's shop that had a cool three piece band and was giving out gin and tonics.
There was a huge line of people waiting to have their pictures taken with the penguins.  I got it done without waiting.
I'm all for holiday hoopla but I have to say that Oxford street doesn't feel very Christmassy.  It feels like you've shrunken into a TV advert with a million other people and you can't get out.  We were happy to have a quiet night in before the start of another work week.
