Whenever we do a road trip I fall in love all over again with the English country side. It's idyllic and yet elusive. My car pictures are either blurry or blocked by a hedge or just plan dull. This one had potential. (That's not a strange purple planet in the upper left hand corner but our National Trust membership sticker.)
For lunch on Saturday we stopped in Matlock and found this lovely spot next to the river. They were hesitant to let us eat outside because the table is low like a coffee table - that area is more for cocktails than for dining. Little do they know that we eat all our meals at home on the coffee table (so we can watch TV of course) so that is our go-to table height.
Bill tried to engage the waitress in a conversation about his sweater. I'm glad that Bill is embracing stripes....just not THOSE stripes. The waitress stayed neutral saying that it looked very British. When I pressed, I discovered that British simply meant that these were the same colors as the flag. Not sure that's much of an endorsement.
These little loaf shaped breads were too cute not to photograph.
Later that night we were staying in Cromford. We took a little walk around town to look for a dinner spot. This is the bookstore I did not get to visit on this trip since it was closed.
The view across the street from the bookshop I didn't get to visit....
Then we found our dinner place - with a sign like this, how could we not eat here??
Time tom pack up the mini for the trip home...
But first - Nottingham. There were probably actual sights to see in Nottingham. We had tea with Mr. Dibley.
