Lacock and Castle Combe

Christine decided to spend Sunday on a guided tour of Stonehenge so Bill and I revisited two of the most picturesque villages in England - - Lacock and Castle Combe.  Both have been meticulously preserved and are often used to film period pieces.  Without cars on the road you could almost believe the Bennet sisters would stroll around the corner any minute looking for the regiment.

Lunch at the The Sign of the Angel restaurant in Lacock  which was recommended to us by a lovely older gentleman who sold us a cobalt blue yak wool blanket in the Woolen shop.   The best Sunday roast yet!!  It was cold and raw outside and we had the perfect seat in front of the warm fire.

Castle Combe is also well preserved but the rain was starting to pick up so we did a fairly quick walk through with the camera.

But the highlight of the day was adding to our menagerie of household oddities.  Yes, this is what you think it is - a stuffed fox wearing a bow tie and spectacles.  We found him in a tiny antiques shop in Lacock.  As soon as I saw this little guy's face I knew I could not leave without him.  He seems to be house broken and a good listener. Our lives are already richer for having brought him home.

He's gorgeous, and perfect company for a passionate reader!
You might enjoy the chapters in Jenny Lawson's memoirs on taxidermy.... hysterical, in fact, she'd get stuffed fox envy if she saw your picture, I'm sure.

He must be the birthday present you mentioned. Perfect! I could never top that. What's his name?
