This past weekend I was in my element at the annual Books on the Nightstand retreat in Vermont! Four days and three nights of books, authors, literary games...basically a book love fest. It kicked off with a trivia contest. My team was room mate Dawn (below) and two southern belles who were first time retreaters. Anita was a hoot and got us points for the best team name: The Hos of Prose. (Other than team name, we were actually quite awful)
I was a little disappointed that the weather was snowy since I packed for spring. But it did give us the chance to pretend to read by the fire.
Yankee bookswap!! I ended up with a signed first edition of The Orphan Master's Son which won the Pulitzer just a few days later.
The first year I came I was excited about the authors. Now by year three I don't even care what authors are there as long as I see all my old friends. It's not the rowdiest weekend (although I went to bed at 2:15 on Saturday night which must give us some cred?) but it's one of my favorites and one I would not miss for anything!
