We left Venezia to take in one of the neighboring islands. Most tourists go to Murano to find Venetian glass. It's the nearest island to Venice, only 10 minutes by water taxi. Two problems with Murano; we didn't really like the look of the glass - it didn't fit our style, and the place is flooded with tourists.
No glass for us.
Instead we went to see the beauty of Burano, home of brightly colored houses and Burano lace.
Excellent choice.
Mr. Dibley came with us for the trip.
Jennie looks good against the bright colors of the homes.
Our lunch was the probably the best we had on our trip.
Waitress deboning my sea bass.
Every corner you turn the prismatic houses leap out at you. Each more stunning than the next.
Gondola shirts in the wind. We read that the better gondola boatmen make around 150,000 euros a year.
Jennie was very happy for our diversion to Burano.
Not everything in Burano ispretty and magical. I found this scary doll head, which signified that it was time to leave before shit got real.
