I was back at Guildhall last night for another History Festival event. This time it was Alison Weir talking about Mary Boleyn (see bottom photo). It was very good but I was more interested to hear that the room I was in was the site of two famous weddings - Charles to Camilla and Elton John to David Furnish both in 2005. I also learned that the four center columns in the front of the building were deemed unnecessary by Christopher Wren in 1687 so he left gaps between the top of the column and the ceiling - therefore they are not actually supporting anything. (not sure how that went unnoticed at the time if there was pressure to put columns there in the first place...)
